Just as lockdown 1 was announced THHN was getting ready to showcase our newly adapted ‘Sunset View’ lodge. Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to show this off publicly so here is a video which takes you through what this lodge looks like.
The importance of this lodge for us is that it allows us the opportunity to provide memory making holidays to even more families, in particular those with very specific complex needs. The lodge now includes a wet room accessed by a hoist and a profiling bed. We also installed a ramp making the lodge even more accessible for wheelchair users and made sure we furnished it to allow sufficient space inside for wheelchair access.
This makeover was only possible through fundraising and donations from our supporters. Many of the services we needed to be able to adapt the lodge were offered to us for free or reduced rates. We remain grateful to everyone who donated money, discounts, their time to creat this very special holiday lodge. I’m sure you will agree it looks fantastic.
Since the ease of restrictions across 2020/2021 we have been able to welcome back families, many of whom have required the services of Sunset View. Many families have taken time on their return home to write to us detailing what the holiday, and the lodge meant to them. One family described how amazing the profile he’d and en-suite bathroom was “as this helped retain my son’s independence as much as possible. He felt so special and felt like a proper teenager.”
As we look forward to what we hope will be a brighter 2022 for us all, we look forward to being able to welcome even more families to South Devon who will experience the unwavering support of our wonderful THHN community.
